Dotstory (the “Company”) operates the Catwatching macOS app and website and follows applicable privacy laws. This policy explains what information each service handles and the choices available to you.
Information handled and purposes
The Company handles only information needed for the purposes below. Catwatching has no registration or sign-in, and window information processed by the app is not sent to Company servers.
Information processed on your Mac
To identify the focus target, the app processes window titles, owning app identifiers, window positions and sizes, and display information in memory. Depending on your settings, it briefly checks pointer movement, mouse dragging, and Fn-key state for reveal and preview features. This information is processed on your Mac and is not sent to a server.
Intensity, color, shortcuts, preferred apps, display, and behavior settings are stored in UserDefaults in the macOS app container. A temporary settings snapshot may be stored so Focus Mode can restore the previous state. The app does not store window titles, typed content, screen images, or document content. The app has no analytics SDK, advertising SDK, or user accounts.
App permissions
Accessibility permission is used to check the position of the frontmost window. Screen Recording permission is used to inspect the on-screen window list and titles of other apps; it is not used to record screens or send screenshots to a server. You initiate permission requests in app settings and can revoke them in macOS System Settings. Turning them off may limit window highlighting.
Inquiry information
If you contact us by email or phone, we use your name (if provided), email address or phone number, inquiry and attachments, and response history to answer you and resolve disputes. Email is received and stored through Gmail by Google LLC.
Website analytics — with consent
The Firebase Analytics SDK is loaded and website statistics are sent only after you allow it in cookie settings. Google LLC may process visited URLs, page titles and referrers, browser language, browser and device details, operating system, screen size, visit and interaction events, and visitor or session identifiers. Approximate location may be inferred from the IP address.
Google Analytics uses IP addresses at collection time to derive location information, then discards them before the data is logged in any data center or server. Google says it does not log or store individual IP addresses. Analytics consent is optional; declining does not prevent you from using the app or website.
Retention and deletion
The Company deletes personal information without delay when its purpose has been fulfilled. Information that must be retained by law is stored separately for the required period and deleted when that period ends.
- Inquiry records: Kept as long as needed to handle inquiries and disputes. Where the Act on Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce applies, records of consumer complaints and disputes may be retained for the statutory period of three years.
- App settings: Stored on your device and not held by the Company. They are removed when you delete the app container's settings. A Focus Mode restore snapshot is deleted when restored.
- Firebase Hosting request information: Google uses request IP addresses to prevent abuse and analyze usage. Firebase states that IP information is retained for a few months.
- Firebase Analytics information: Collected only with consent. User- and event-level information is automatically deleted after the Google Analytics property's retention setting of 2 or 14 months. This setting may not apply to standard aggregated reports. Your consent choice stays in browser localStorage until you change or delete it.
Electronic files are deleted so they cannot be recovered. We may not send a separate notice when inquiry records have been deleted.
